No, really, look again. THESE ARE MY GODDAMN EYES!!!
The white bit is the nerve bundle. That’s the thing blocking your vision when you do the blind spot test.
The darker area is my fovea… the bit that does all the serious seeing. That bad boy is full of cones, hence my PERFECT COLOUR VISION. The rest is less cone dense, and has mostly rods (so better for night vision… try looking at stars indirectly, for instance).
The wispy white bits you can see coming out from the optic nerve bundle are nerves. You can see them best in the left eye.
